Engineers are responsible for making sure that all fire equipment and fire apparatus is operating as required. This includes the scheduled inspection, preventive maintenance and post-incident maintenance and repair of all self-contained breathing apparatus equipment and air compressors, ladder and aerial device equipment, small power tools, fire extinguishers and more. Engineers also train new members in driver’s safety, pump operations and aerial operations and ensure that all drivers of the apparatus are proficient and maintain proper certification.
In addition to their special responsibilities, engineers attend department training classes and respond to most of the incidents in the Hazardville Fire District.
